Abstract
Why waste water heat recovery?
Thanks to ever stricter regulations on the building envelope and consequently thicker insulation, energy consumption for heating has been massively reduced over the past decades. However, the energy requirement for hot water remains constant.
Due to the increased hygiene requirements and ever larger overhead showers, it can even be assumed that the energy consumption for hot water – and especially for showers – will increase even more.
Nowadays a household needs the same amount of energy for hot water as for the entire space heating system. Time to “plug” the last big hole in the insulation. Because it really makes no sense to produce a lot of hot water with valuable energy, which we dispose of after only two seconds of use.
