DESCRIPTION

The Energy Systems Group is part of the F.-A. Forel Department of Environmental and Water Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Geneva. It is also associated with the Institute of Environmental Sciences, where it contributes to teaching in the framework of the Master's degree in environmental sciences. For more than 30 years, it has been conducting interdisciplinary research on energy systems and sectors, from a perspective of demand management, energy efficiency and renewable energy integration. The Group's specificity consists of a problem-based approach associated with innovative projects and programmes. Over the past thirty years, it has built up knowledge on practices and realities in the energy field. The staff of the Energy Systems Group come from various disciplines such as physics, environmental sciences, econometrics, political science and architecture.

CONTRIBUTION IN RENOWAVE

In addition to the co-management of the overall project, UNIGE contributes in subproject 1.4 “Life Cycle Sustainability and resilience assessment of solutions” as well as subproject 2.1 “Design and technical improvement of fuel-switch concepts”. The research group benefits of a large experience in the analysis of innovative energy systems in actual condition of use (long-term monitoring, system analysis, sensibility studies). In the last decade the focus has largely been set on HP systems of different sizes (individual and on district heating) and with diverse heat sources. UNIGE will thereby bring its expertise to the project in order to further develop new approaches to reduce technical hurdles and costs associated with the fuel-switch and envelope-retrofit.
